TAULAS.
Illyrian name, possibly meaning "a swallow bird." Helidones
(the people of the swallows) from χελιδών
(a swallow bird), is said to be the Greek translation of Taulantii.
Taulas, a
son of Illyrius, from whom the inhabitants of Illyricum were, according
to some authors, called Taulantii. Valerius Flaccus describes him
as a man of distinction, probably from his personal bravery; but whether
the poet invented the name, or obtained his information from sources now
unknown, it were now vain to inquire. (Bibliotheca Classica,
