(History of Christian Names, Yonge, 1884; A Handy Dictionary of Anglo-Saxon Poetry Based on Groschopp's Grein, Harrison-Baskervill, 1886).  It is the same as the Old German name Theodobald. (Surnames, Weekley, 1916)
