THURWOLD.  Another spelling of Anglo-Saxon Thurweald (q.v.), meaning "Thor's power," from Thor, god of thunder, and weald "to wield power."  It is the same as Old Norse Thorvalldr.  Also see ThorwealdThorald and Thorold are Middle English forms. (Transactions of the Philological Society, 1907-1910).
