Origin of the name TURALD.
Etymology of the name TURALD.
Meaning of the baby name TURALD.

TURALD.  Norman.  A form of Old Norse Thorvalldr (q.v.), meaning "Thor's power."  Also spelled Turold.  It is the same as A.S. Thurweald. (Onomasticon Anglo-Saxonicum, Searle, 1897).

"Land of Walter Gifard.  Turald hold of Walter iij virgates of land in Stoches, and iij virgates of land in Toresmere.  Land to two ploughs.  He has one plough there.  It was and is worth xx shillings."
This first owner in occupation of Turesmere after the Conquest, Turold or Turald, was a Norman warrior, of no great note in the general history, but of considerable local importance in his own country.  His name and figure are represented in the Bayeux tapestry, on the Norman side, among the other retainers of Bishop Odo.  His land in England was generally held of the Bishops, but the estate which he held at Turesmere appears to have been an exception. (
History of the Deanery of Bicester, Blomfield, v.1, 1882).
