TURRELL.  English and French.  Transferred use of the surname, meaning "Thor's power," from Norman-French Turold (q.v.), Anglo-Saxon Thurweald (q.v.), forms of Old Norse Thorvalldr. (The Romance of Names, Weekley, 1914).  Also spelled Turrill.

    Turrell or Turrel, [Lat. Turellus,] (Pierre,) a French astrologer, and rector of the College of Dijon, wrote "The Period of the World," ("La Période du Monde," 1531.)  Died about 1547. (Universal Pronouncing Dictionary of Biography and Mythology, Thomas, 1915).
