ULRICA. The
feminine
form of German Ulric
(q.v.), and Anglo-Saxon Æthelric
(q.v.), meaning "noble ruler."
Also spelled Ulrika.
Usage: England, Germany, Sweden.
ULRICA, the
feminine of Ulric, Alaric
or Aethelric, means "noble ruler", from adel = noble,
and ric = ruler or king. The name both for men and for
women is more common in Germany than in England, and was made popular
there by being the name of a much-loved Bishop of Ausburg in the tenth
century, who was afterwards canonized. (Girls' Christian Names,
Swan, 1905).
