URMITU.  An Assyrian goddess, the consort of Nebo.  Her name is now generally written Tasmit.  She and her husband, as the deities of writing and learning, were supposed to have charge of the education of the kings of Assyria.  Her worship was introduced into Babylonia by Hammurabi. (An Archaic Dictionary, Cooper, 1876).
