ÚNA.  f.  Irish name meaning "famine."  It is Anglicized Oona. (History of Christian Names, Yonge, 1884).

UNA.  f.  Northern.  Probably from vin/win, meaning "a friend." (Ibid., Yonge, 1884).

UNA.  f.  English.  A name invented by Spenser, meaning "one-ness."  It was probably inspired by the Irish Úna, but derived from the Latin, so as to contrast with the duplicity of Duessa (q.v.). (The Spenser Encyclopedia, Hamilton, 1990)

UNA.  m.  A great general and officer under King Pepi-Merira of the VIth dynasty.  He was sent to fetch the sarcophagus designed for the tomb of his master from Ethiopia, and afterwards fought many battles against the Aamu and the Herusha, whom he conquered, and was allowed as a mark of honour ever afterwards to wear his sandals in the presence of the king. (An Archaic Dictionary, Cooper, 1876).
