VAROUJAN.  Armenian name, possibly meaning "martial bird," especially, "the raven."  Daniel Varoujan was one of the intelligent and influential Armenians of Constantinople who died in the 1915 slaughter by the Turks.  See Jackson's note under Varak. (Poet Lore, v.28, 1917).
