AL-WALID I.,
the son and successor of Abdu-l-malek, was the sixth khalif of the
family of Umeyyah. He succeeded to the throne in the middle of the
latter Jumada, A.H. 86 (12th of June, A.D. 705). Under this khalif,
the Umeyyide dynasty attained the height of its prosperity. (The
