WILFORD.  Charnock makes this a corruption of English Wilfred (q.v.), meaning "resolute peace." (Praenomina, Charnock, 1882).  But it is probably the same as Williford (see note below), from A.S. willa (cf. O.H.G. willa; O.N. vili), "resolute" or "will power," and ford "a ford" or "watchman."     Carson Wilford Leach (d. 1988), was an American film and theater director, and screenwriter.  Wilford Henry Gibson (d. 2001), was a British police officer in the London Metropolitan Police. (Wiki)
