XENIA (Ξενία).
From the ancient Greek word xenia, from xenos
(stranger, foreigner), but sometimes rendered "hospitality."
Zeus was sometimes referred to as Zeus Xenia
because he was also a god of travelers. For this reason the ancient
Greeks considered it a religious obligation to be hospitable to
travelers. It is said that the Trojan war began as a result of a
violation of Xenia, for Paris had been a guest of Menlaus and
violated Xenia by abducting his host's wife. Also spelled Xena.
(Yonge)
