XISUTHRUS.
The Latinized Greek form of Assyrian Khasis-adra
(q.v.), Babylonian Adrahasis
(q.v.), meaning "great intelligence," i.e. "the Sage."
But see Sisuthrus.
The name Xisuthrus
has been discovered by Mr. Smith to be latent in the Assyrian name Khasis-adra
(q.v.). This seems a very probable conjecture... (Transactions
of the Society of Biblical Archaeology, v.4, 1876).
XISUTHRUS. According to
Berosus the tenth and last of the antediluvian kings of Babylon.
The dynasty of which he was chief is said to have reigned for 432,000
years.
Xisuthrus. According to Greek tradition the hero of the Flood. See Adrahasis
and Sisit. (An Archaic
Dictionary, Cooper, 1876).
