Abu Abd
Allah Muhammad Ibn al-Kasim Ibn Khallad Ibn Yasir Ibn Sulaiman
al-Hashimi, surnamed Abu 'l-Aina, was a mawla to (the khalif)
Abu Jaafar al-Mansur. He was born A.H. 191 (A.D. 806-7) at al-Ahwaz.
He passed his early youth at Basra, and there learned Traditions and
cultivated literature, having heard lessons of Abu Obaida, al-Asmai, Abu
Zaid al-Ansari, al-Otbi, and other masters. On attaining his
fortieth year, he lost his sight... He died in the month of the latter
Jumada, A.H. 283 (Jul-Aug, A.D. 896) (Ibn Khallikan's Biographical
