biblical Joshua
(q.v.), meaning "Jehovah (is) salvation"; "Jehovah Saviour,"
or "whose salvation is Jehovah." [Jesus.].

"Yehoshua (Joshua)" is well attested as borne by the
leader of Israel in the conquest of Canaan, but this name if compounded
with "Yahweh," and therefore proves that this deity was known
