ZAHRAH (زهرة).
Arabic. The same as Zahra
(q.v.), meaning "blooming, flourishing," "bright,
clear," or "flower."
... The Angel.—I am a porter
of this court, a home-born slave of God's defender;* and have come from
him with pomegranates for Zahrah his wife. Be thou pleased to take
them from his servant. (The Miracle Play of Hasan and Husain,
Pelly-Wollaston, v.1, 1879)
... Neither the Soudanese nor the
natives had got so far as giving separate names to these pretty fancies of
nature, and I never got more out of Bazruta to put into my vocabulary than
"Zahrah," which signifies "flower" in his tongue... (Service
and Sport on the Tropical Nile, Sykes, 1903)
