Bulgarian
form of Zachary (q.v.),
biblical Zacharias (q.v.),
meaning "whom Jehovah remembers." Zahar is the
Bulgarian word for "sugar." (How to Learn the English

On the 22nd
June the Bulgarian Zahari, of the village of Libavo, was killed by the men
of a Greek band. (Macedonia and the Reforms, Draganof-Bérard, 1908)
